Take your special family pet with you when you travel this year. Many families have the same dilemma each year - what to do with your beloved pet while you are on vacation.

The answer is quite simple; take your pet with you. Lodges, hotels, resorts, and campgrounds throughout the country have become extremely pet friendly. Special accommodations such as separate pet areas are becoming more common in most locations.

You may find that there are additional deposits required if you choose to have your pet in your hotel room or at your campground, but these are normally minimal and you will receive a refund of this deposit if you make certain you clean up after your pet and your pet causes no damage. A simple online search and inquiries made to the establishments you intend to visit will give you all the information you need about the availability of pet accommodations. Procedures and policies regarding pets differ from place to place. Check in advance to make sure you understand the rules in each location you plan to visit.

When making hotel reservations, make sure you get a ground floor room to make walks and bathroom trips easier. Upon checking in, ask about special areas for walking your pet. You should cover any furniture and bedding your pet will be allowed on to prevent soiling or tearing of hotel property. Do not leave your pet alone in your hotel room. Even the best behaved pets can become destructive or bark incessantly when left alone in a new place. If you have plans that do not include your pet, ask about pet sitters or day care in advance of your trip. Be sure to keep your pet on a leash at all times and do not take them into indoor, public areas. Traveling with your pet can be an enjoyable adventure if you plan in advance and take the necessary precautions.
