Commercials, health articles and other information endorse the importance of lowering one's cholesterol level. But, few reports detail the risks of ignoring high bad cholesterol. The medical terminology for the infamous is bad, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, (LDL) is a nice euphemism for fat depositing in the arteries.

So what does this mean? It means that when LDL cholesterol is elevated in the body, it can store itself in the arteries of brain, heart, kidney as well as other arteries throughout the body. What makes LDL detrimental is its ability to collect in the arteries, forming plaque, and potentially developing into a heart attack.

The outcome of cholesterol seeping into various crevices of the arteries is atherosclerosis. In other words, this narrowing coupled with the deposition of cholesterol in fibrous tissue can ultimately promote a stroke, heart attack, blocked arteries throughout the body, peripheral vascular disease and a host of other chronic ailments.

With its multiple components, cholesterol is complex and detrimental. Certain facets of cholesterol are deemed more lethal than others. However, cholesterol has a kind protective element, the high-density lipoprotein, (HDL). Even so, low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) are the type of cholesterol that bears watching. High levels of LDL can be downright dangerous in impelling the progression of artery disease.

Excessive amounts of cholesterol in the bloodstream can trigger impairment to the blood vessels as well as the heart. Many animal-derived foods (in example: e dairy products, eggs and meat) eggs, are rich in cholesterol and may improve the potential of developing high cholesterol).

Nonetheless, not all cholesterol is derived from diet and not all cholesterol negatively impacts the body. More importantly, because the body produces cholesterol, it requires good cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol or HDL to function.
