Health and Medical Issues Linked to Hair Loss

What do birth control pills, fungus and iron-poor blood have in common? All of them are attributed to hair loss, alopecia or hair shedding.
Birth Control Pills
Generally, female who shed tresses while using birth control pills are genetically predisposed to hair thinning. Women who are taking oral contraceptives and experiencing hair loss should woman their gynecologist about prescribing another birth control pill. Verisimilar to how new mothers will shed hair following childbirth, the same occurs to women who stop taking birth control pills. The condition or resting phase can happen for up to six months following cessation of an oral contraceptive.
Low Serum Iron
From person-to-person, an iron deficiency may or may not incite hair loss. Certain individuals consume insufficient amounts of iron in their diet. Other people are unable to completely absorb iron. Iron deficiencies are prevalent in women with a heavy menstruation cycle.
Fungus Infection (Ringworm)
Quite dissimilar to its name, ringworm is unrelated to actual worms and the result of a fungus infection. The fungal infection starts in miniscule patches of scaly skin. It can mushroom, triggering broken hair, swollenness, redness, secretions as well as oozing. Very contagious, the ringworm disease is common amongst children; however oral medication may quell it.
Medications
Various prescription drugs can cause a temporary bout of hair shedding. For instance, the medications prescribed for the following diseases may trigger hair loss: arthritis, depression, gout, high blood pressure, heart problems or blood thinner. Whenever, excessive doses of vitamin A are taken, hair loss and shedding may occur.
Major Surgery/Chronic Illness
Subsequent to any surgical operation, patients endure unusual hair shedding for up to three months. Within a few months, shedding should stop; however, for people with a chronic disease shedding can be indefinite.
