Music On Hold

Ever find it very irritating when people from customer service leave you hanging for a long period of time. In some situations, you can even take a bath, crap, and watch a movie and so on. The worse part is, when you get back, you are still on hold. Now some companies that have been doing so have decided to be kinder to the customer. They have decided to implement a music call on hold service.

At first the idea seems very golden and entertaining. Imagine that you will no longer recollect why you always cried when eating French fries because of the silence. The dreaded silence that always makes you ponder is now being replaced by a great concept. Instead of hearing your own breathe and heartbeat, you can now be able to hear great sounds of famous artists.

However, this great idea could sometimes be a horrific nightmare too. Some companies who implement call on hold music are too cheap. They only play old music and keep repeating it over and over again. Now instead of just hearing silence, you will have the last song syndrome of Mili Vanilli or Vanilla Ice. You’ll be the laughing stock of people who will hear you singing “Ice, Ice Baby.” Or even worse you could be singing Mc Hammer Songs. Now you just wish that the silence is just back.

Some companies who are still too cheap but are afraid to bore their customer would rather use the radio. They would just hold the phone over a radio and let the customer listen. If that was the case, I’d rather go to my own radio. Companies be warned though, when you’re too cheap you may end up paying more. You may end up with a lawsuit of copyright infringement. This type of punishment could be $100,000 and a year in prison. Using the radio could also backfire as you don’t have any control of what your customer hears. They could suddenly hear a commercial about a deodorant commercial and that would totally stink.

For companies who would implement call on hold music, I beg of you to try to give us customers great songs. There are a number of companies out there that are providing modern songs. Even better there are some companies that provide personalized call on hold music. They could insert a message saying more about your company. It will be like a jingle that the customers will never forget. Instead of singing “Ice, Ice Baby.”, your customer will now be singing to the tunes of your company.
