The Azawakh Hound Physical Characteristics


This leggy yet regal breed, the Azawakh Hound or Tuareg Sloughi has the appearance of natural refinement. The bone structure coalesced with its muscular build garners lean tissues. Over the entire body, the skin is tight and taut. The coat colorations range from fawn with flecking. Every inch of th Azawakh Hound is fine and short.

On the extremeties, the coat colors are limited from dark fawn to light sable. There is white brush at the tip of the breed’s tail with a white bib on the coat. The height of the average Azawakh hound is anywhere between 23-29 inches or 58-74 centimeters with a weight of 37 to 55 pounds or 17 to 25 kilograms.

Personality and Temperament of the Azawakh hound

The temperament of the Azawakh hound cover the spectrum of companion, hunter, and protector. These characteristics are natural to its original environment. In the company of loved one’s the breed is fast, attentive, proud, alert and loving. With strangers, the Azawakh hound will remains instinctively distant and aloof.

Since, these canines are elegant yet slender, their frame is muscular under it fine yet dry skin. The reason the Azawakh hound is deemed as rapid is because they can run up to 37 miles per hour.

As long as the Azawakh hound gets adequate exercise, they can reside in an apartment without many complications. However, when they are restricted to the indoors, they may become inactive. Brisk walks are ideal to keep them healthy. In freezing climates, the Azawakhs tends to be a bit sensitive to the cold.

The average life expectancy of the Azawakh hound is approximately 12 years.
