If you are planning a trip by bus, or taking a long distance trip, there are some ways you can make this a more pleasant experience. Traveling can be quite expensive, and making plans to travel by bus can save you quite a bit of money. There are many choices and decisions to make when planning a trip, and how to organize a trip by bus can be quite stressful. While bus travel will save you a lot of money, there are other considerations that must be addressed in order to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Bus travel can give you the opportunity to see significantly more sights than travel by air or by car. Busses generally make numerous stops, some in out of the way locations. You will be able to see parts of the country you would not otherwise encounter. Bus travel can be quite monotonous and boring, especially at night. Most busses will have overhead lights to allow you to be able to read if you choose. Take along books, CD players with headphones, and your favorite music to help the time pass more quickly. Other passengers are a concern when traveling by bus. To make sure you get a good seat, arrive at the bus stop early. Seating on busses is first come, first serve, so you will want to make certain you get there early enough to choose the seat that you desire.
During your trip, you should make sure you get out at each stop to walk around and get some fresh air. The majority of busses will have a restroom on board, but you will be very relieved to take advantage of full size facilities at each stop the bus makes. Bring along snacks and drinks that you can easily store in the overhead compartment. Secure any valuables you may have by placing them in your checked luggage. If your personal items are lost or stolen while inside the bus you will have very little chance of recovering them. Speaking of your luggage, it will be up to you to watch the unloading of the luggage very carefully to make sure yours gets off safely at your destination.
