Halloween is an enchanting day where even dogs can join in the fun. Despite the festivities of the day, keeping a canine safe is mission critical. Use the following safety precautions to assure the safety of your dog:
If your dog must wear a costume, use the following tips in its Halloween attire:
Opt for safe and annoying free costumes that allow for easy movement
A costume should not inhibit your dog's ability to breathe and bark
The costume should not obstructs his or her vision
Dogs should never be left without supervision in a costume
Always monitor your dog for bitten pieces of the costume that may trigger choking (in example: buttons, elastic, paper rubber bands, or other materials)
Affix reflective tape onto dog's costume if you will be out after dark
Never leave your pet unsupervised in a costume.
As cute as the idea of taking your dog to trick or treat with the family may be, the event can trigger anxiety or fear.
To avoid any potential negative encounters, keep keep a leash on him or and be mindful of anything they try to eat during the Halloween stroll.
To minimize any anxiety or fear in your dog, keep pets away of boisterous children and walk them before the Halloween festivities get underway
The most socially oriented dogs may not be ready for the entourage of children during trick-or-treating hours. To prevent any unforeseen situations, keep your dog in a separate room. For starters, the rampant traffic of strangers may overwhelm a dog. Not to mention, some children are afraid of dogs and other pets.
Finally, in the happenstance that your dog breaks free, make sure he or she is wearing a collar with an ID tag or other proper identification.
