Just like anything overdone, the same old exercise routine can become tiresome, humdrum and mind numbing. Fitness doldrums can lead to exercise dropout. In order for us to benefit from the lifetime commitment of working out, a little a little injection of zing is needed every now and again.
The Amalgamation
An amalgamation of different exercises is a vital component of exercise. If professional athletes follow the same exercise regimen, it limits their physical ability to transcend a certain level peak performance. Not to mention, overusing the same muscle groups, joints and ligaments, makes people susceptible to injury.
Another way to achieve an all around fitness is via cross training. Because the basis of the program enables flexibility, a variation of exercises, enhances joint stability and boosts endurance while building strength, it serves as a well-rounded routine. The best aspect of following a cross-training regimen is the adaptability to oneÕs lifestyle, time restrictions and climate issues.
On rainy days, a bike ride can be taken indoors on a stationary bike. On days when itÕs too hot to run, laps in the pool are the perfect cross training alternative. In harsh winter climates, indoor exercise is a reality. However, for an all over toning exercise, cross-country skiing works all the bodyÕs muscles.
Cross training fitness tip: Cross training transcends cross-country skiing and elliptical exercise machinery. Alternating activities such as walking one day, swimming the next, bicycling one time and jogging once a week makes for a varied cross-training regimen. Indoor exercises can include yoga, the treadmill, Pilates, stationary exercise machines, ballet, karate or any other activities an individual my enjoy. Cross-training exercise includes a range of moments that engage different muscle groups.
