What is The Dr. Atkins Diet?

The Dr. Atkins diet, which is commonly misspelled adkins, is based on the theory that reduced carbohydrate intake produces weight loss. Sticking to the Atkins diet involves a complete lifestyle change. The approach of Atkins is towards dieters of a specific categorization.
Before beginning the Atkins method, Dr. Atkins asks whether a potential Atkins diet follower might place himself or herself in some of these scenarios.
atkins wonders…

  • Do you weigh more than you should even though you don’t eat much?
  • Do many people eat more than you but stay thin?
  • Is dieting ineffective for you even when you stick to the rules?
  • Do low-calorie foods leave you starving?
  • Do you gain weight even when dieting?
  • Do you keep losing the same 5 pounds?
  • Do you think your metabolism is slow?
  • Are others in your family overweight?

The idea of atkins is that if these are true for you, that you are addicted to carbohydrates. The atkins weight management program believes that a person loses weight by restricting carbohydrates, if you think you may be addicted to carbohydrates, you may want to consider the Atkins diet, here is a list of foods that are commonly eaten while on Atkins.

I actually was on this diet back when I was in high school. I actually lost around 50 pounds at the time and was down to 250 or so. But I let myself go after high school and gained the weight back and then some. But I'm back on the diet and I'm doing fantastically well with it. ;)

The atkins diet is one of those diets I'm unsure about. Personally I see calories as the major factor. Carbs can be cut, but you should watch calories more often than carbs. I tend to lose more weight when I make sure to eat up to 2000 calories in a day. But I don't count out the atkins diet because they can get the weight off. It did for my father.

When I first heard of the Atkins diet I was a bit worried about it. I heard a lot of bad things online and from friends who did it. I asked my doctor about it and he said you should be fine as long as you still eat fruits, veggies and other healthy food. The Atkins diet does work, at least for me it does. :)

The whole point of the Atkins diet is to lose weight by lowering carb intake and I personally love how simple that is. Many people love carbs because it does give you energy. When I started the atkins diet I didn't expect to not eat the things I used to like, but I decided that I had to move on to a better diet.
