What Foods Should I Eat While on The Atkins Diet?

In order to eat foods that are in line with the atkins diet program to lose weight means that you should choose atkins diet foods that offer either no carbohydrates or very limited carbohydrates. Most foods high in protein, such as beef, chicken, seafood and eggs, have little or no carbohydrates and are good suggested items for the induction phase of the atkins diet as they contain only minimal carbohydrates. The atkins diet consists of foods that are intended to purge the body of carbohydrates.

The majority of carbohydrates eaten while on the atkins diet should come from vegetables, but remember, the carbs in these vegetables still count as carbohydrates consumed.  Dr. Atkins recommends that 12 to 15 grams per day of  carbohydrates should come from vegetables.

Foods that are eaten while on the Atkins diet contains a group of foods doctors question. Fats, in combination with proteins are the mainstay in atkins diet foods, raising concern about health issues. These groups of atkins diet foods are not suggested for good cardiovascular health by most doctors and some doctors claim this lifestyle could be disastrous to long term health, so be aware that there may be potential risks of living the Atkins way.

Requirements in the atkins diet foods are for pure fats and some of these atkins diet foods in the fat group are butter, not margarine or reduced calorie substitutes, mayonnaise and various oils. These atkins diet foods cannot be fat-free, cholesterol-free or reduced calorie choices, but must be pure fat. The very thing dieters seek to remove from their bodies is the exact content that these required atkins diet foods are putting into the body.

While on the atkins diet, water is the recommended drink to consume and Dr. Atkins recommends eight 8-oz glasses per day. Tea, decaffeinated coffee or diet sodas sweetened with sucralose (Splenda) can be consumed at last resort if you are unable to function without caffeine.

I agree with everything in this article. When I first did the atkins diet I cut out the bread and other stuff high in carbs. I do the same thing today as I cannot fathom the idea of having carbs go into my system. I eat a lot of meat, veggies and fruits. ;)

Foods low in calories and carbs is the obvious route. My father lowered his calorie intake as well as his carb intake and he lost a lot of weight. He did eat a lot of lean meats and cut out bread and other stuff full of yeast and wheat.

The Atkins diet isn't complex or hard to understand. It's all about lowering carb intake. One thing I'd recommend is to eat foods low in carbs and sugar as this is what causes problems. Also make sure to eat fruits, veggies, healthy meats low in fat, and so on. :) Also cut down on sodium.

Carbs are the main factor the atkins diet is trying to combat. Foods low in carbs and calories are the obvious way to go as food high in both can increase weight gain. But yeah, just eat healthy foods and you should be fine. ;)
