Involve your child in the process of choosing a school and selecting classes.
Be positive. Reassure your child that others have the same apprehensions, but that you are sure everything will turn out well.
Children that participate in school activities are more likely to feel connected to the school and strive academically; therefore, you should encourage your child to become involved in a school activity.
Begin the school routine a week ahead of time in order to assist your child in readjusting to the school year schedule of early rising.
Be prepared for the first day of school by finding out where the bus stop is located, calling the school to find out if there are any special procedures on the first day, and, if possible, visiting your child's homeroom so they will know where to go on the first day of school.
Make sure your child is prepared on the first day of class with a notebook and pen or pencil. Once you have a list of supplies from the school, purchase the necessary supplies as soon as possible so that your child can be prepared for class.
Organize the night before school starts. Have everything prepared: choose an outfit, pack the bookbag and make the lunch. This prevents a hectic start to the morning and a negative impression of the year to come.
Fix a healthy breakfast for your child and send them to school with a healthy snack to boost brain power through the day.
If your child seems nervous, accompanying them to their first day of school can help ease their fears and assure them that you are there for them.
Introduce yourself to your child's teacher and explain any of your child's interests or challenges that the teacher should know.
