10 Tips to Lower Your Blood Sugar

| 1. |
Get fit! Physical activity generally lowers blood sugar and can stimulate your body to maintain the healthier rate for several hours after being active. |
| 2. |
Eat regularly. Your body works like a machine and machines need proper fuel to continue functioning correctly. Keep a container of peanuts handy to snack on in between meals. This will ensure that your body keeps processing and therefore will not create a lull of action in which your blood sugar levels can go sky-high. |
| 3. |
Eat fruits! Not all fruits are useful in lowering blood sugar so you should do some research before including them in your regular diet. Bananas and strawberries are known to be high in sugar but apples, oranges and pears could reduce blood sugar levels. |
| 4. |
Eat low-glycemic foods. These are foods that have less sugar in them for your body to break down, creating less work for your liver and making it more likely that your liver will do a good job. Grains and proteins are more likely to be low-glycemic than many other foods, so eat more oatmeal, granola, beans, peanuts, etc. |
| 5. | Avoid starches-potatoes, rice and white bread are very high in sugar content and a small amount of these foods could increase your blood sugar by a large amount. |
| 6. | Steer clear of the drive-through. Fast foods are high in fat and sugar and little more than a bite of this food could set your liver back hours in sugar processing. |
| 7. | Drink lots of water. Keeping hydrated causes all of your organs to function better, including your liver. Water also helps to flush dangerous toxins from your system. |
| 8. | Alcohol causes low blood sugar. Because your liver also must process alcohol, a very small amount of liquor could cause your liver to be more preoccupied with that job than with releasing sugar when your levels drop. |
| 9. | Turn to nature! Some herbs, such as ginseng, yarrow and cinnamon powder, can help to lower blood sugar (and may be good for other ailments too!) |
| 10. |
If something seems seriously out of sorts and low blood sugar is a constant problem, you need to talk to your doctor. He or she may be able to prescribe artificial insulin to help regulate blood sugar in your body. Many different types of medicines are available to help prevent low blood sugar and your doctor can help you find the best one for your lifestyle and your body's needs. |
